Bridge reopening rescheduled to fall 2023

A note from the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT):

MnDOT is working closely with our contractor to determine how quickly they can reopen the bridge. Currently, the bridge is scheduled to reopen to traffic in October 2023. MnDOT doesnot have an exact date that we can share today, but we will provide an update as soon as we can.

Construction update

Signs of spring are everywhere, including on the Third Ave. Bridge construction site.

It was quieter during the winters months as construction crews worked through the meticulous process of concrete surface repairs. These repairs are ongoing, and we are adding more crews and work into our schedule now that it’s warming up.

Here is what you may see from a distance:

  • Crews will start pouring the concrete overlays for the driving surface and sidewalks on the north and south ends of the bridge deck. They will alternate between work areas so they can still access the bridge while the concrete is drying.
  • The refurbished ornamental railings are also being brought to the site for installation. Some pieces have already been unwrapped to take measurements before installation.
